81e235376e Fix typos repo-wide and add codespell pre-commit hook (#6949)
* Fix typos in comments, docstrings and log messages

Correct 39 spelling mistakes across comments, docstrings and log/error
message strings throughout the package (e.g. "conection" -> "connection",
"Incomming" -> "Incoming", "Rasie" -> "Raise"). All changes are confined
to human-readable text; no identifiers, attributes or D-Bus contracts are
touched, so there is no behavior change. Found with codespell.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>

* Fix typos in tests and CI workflow

Correct spelling mistakes in test comments, docstrings and data, plus one
in the builder workflow, so the whole tree is clean for the codespell hook
added next. The assertion in test_network_manager.py is updated to match
the corrected "Unknown error while processing" log message in the source.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>

* Add codespell pre-commit hook

Wire up codespell so spelling mistakes in comments, docstrings and strings
are caught automatically. The vendored frontend panel is excluded, and
"hass" and "astroid" are added to the ignore list as known false positives
(the Home Assistant abbreviation and the pylint dependency package).

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>

* Address review feedback

Improve grammar in several of the touched comments and docstrings: use the
plural "ignore conditions" for the list-returning property, add the missing
auxiliary verb and fix agreement in the timezone-filter comment, fix
"backups ... use" agreement, and reword "underlay" to "underlying" in the
arch module docstring.

Also drop the "*.json" skip from the codespell hook. It was carried over
from another project but is unnecessary here (all tracked JSON is clean),
and skipping it would needlessly leave translation and data JSON unchecked.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>

* Reword onboarding comment

"overflight" was a literal calque of the German "überflogen"; use the
idiomatic "skimmed through" instead.

Stefan AgnerandGitHub ed91b18c4b tests: enable flake8-pytest-style (PT) ruff rules (#6857)
* tests: enable flake8-pytest-style (PT) ruff rules

Enable the `PT` ruff rule set and fix the resulting violations across the
test suite:

- PT006: pass parametrize argument names as tuples instead of a single
  comma-separated string.
- PT022: switch fixtures that have no teardown from `yield` to `return`
  so the lack of cleanup is obvious at a glance.
- PT011: add `match=` to broad `pytest.raises(ValueError)` blocks so the
  expected error is anchored to a specific message.
- PT012: hoist setup (patches, branching) out of `pytest.raises()`
  blocks so only the call that is expected to raise remains inside.
- PT013: replace `from pytest import X` with `import pytest` and access
  attributes via the module.
- PT015: replace `try/except` + `assert False` patterns with
  `pytest.raises(...)`.
- PT017: replace `assert` on exceptions inside `except` blocks with
  `pytest.raises(...) as exc_info` and assert on `exc_info.value`.

No behavioral changes to the tests; the full suite still passes.

* tests: address review feedback on PT ruff rule enablement

- Fix fixture return-type annotations after switching `yield` to `return`
  in tests/conftest.py: drop the `Generator[...]`/`AsyncGenerator[...]`
  wrapper for `dns_manager_service`, `supervisor_internet`, `websession`,
  and `mock_update_data` so the annotation matches what the fixture
  actually returns.
- Correct the return-type annotation of `fixture_ip6config_service` from
  `IP4ConfigService` to `IP6ConfigService`.
- Fix recurring "excepiton" typo in tests/utils/test_exception_helper.py.

* tests: verify backup cleanup on permission error

After `test_new_backup_permission_error` raises `BackupPermissionError`,
assert that no tarfile was left behind and `tmp_path` is empty. The
previous version only checked that the exception was raised, which
missed any regression where a partial tarfile would survive the failed
create.

* tests: rename DNS_GOOD_V6 to DNS_V6_UNSUPPORTED

The constant was named "good" but its tests assert that the URLs are
rejected by the DNS validator. The IPv6 URLs are well-formed but
currently rejected because IPv6 doesn't work with the Docker network
(see `dns_url` in supervisor/validate.py). Rename the constant and the
related test to make the intent obvious.

6877a8b210 Add D-Bus tolerant enum base classes to prevent crashes on unknown values (#6545)
* Add D-Bus tolerant enum base classes to prevent crashes on unknown values

D-Bus services (systemd, NetworkManager, RAUC, UDisks2) can introduce
new enum values at any time via OS updates. Standard Python enum
construction raises ValueError for unknown values, which would crash
the Supervisor.

Introduce DBusStrEnum and DBusIntEnum base classes that use Python's
_missing_ hook to create pseudo-members for unknown values. These
pseudo-members pass isinstance checks (satisfying typeguard), preserve
the original value, don't pollute __members__, and report unknown
values to Sentry (deduplicated per class+value) for observability.

Migrate 17 D-Bus enums in dbus/const.py and udisks2/const.py to the
new base classes. Enums only sent TO D-Bus (StopUnitMode, StartUnitMode,
etc.) are left unchanged. Remove the manual try/except workaround in
NetworkInterface.type now that DBusIntEnum handles it automatically.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com>

* Add explicit enum conversions for systemd-resolved D-Bus properties

The resolved properties (dns_over_tls, dns_stub_listener, dnssec, llmnr,
multicast_dns, resolv_conf_mode) were returning raw string values from
D-Bus without converting to their declared enum types. This would fail
runtime type checking with typeguard.

Now safe to add explicit conversions since these enums use DBusStrEnum,
which tolerates unknown values from D-Bus without crashing.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com>

* Avoid blocking I/O in D-Bus enum Sentry reporting

Move sentry_sdk.capture_message out of the event loop by adding a
fire_and_forget_capture_message helper that offloads the call to the
executor when a running loop is detected.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com>

* Handle exceptions when reporting message to Sentry

* Narrow typing of reported values

Use str/int explicitly since that is what the two existing Enum classes
can actually report.

* Adjust test style

* Apply suggestions from code review

8a95113ebd Improve VLAN configuration (#6094)
* Fix NetworkManager connection name for VLANs

The connection name for VLANs should include the parent interface name
for better identification. This was originally the intention, but the
interface object's name property was used which appears empty at that
point.

* Disallow creating multiple connections for the same VLAN id

Only allow a single connection per interface and VLAN id. The regular
network commands can be used to alter the configuration.

* Fix pytest

* Simply connection id name generation

Always rely on the Supervisor interface representation's name attribute
to generate the NetworkManager connection id. Make sure that the name
is correctly set when creating VLAN interfaces as well.

* Special case VLAN configuration

We can't use the match information when comparing Supervisor interface
representation with D-Bus representations. Special case VLAN and
compare using VLAN ID and parent interface.

Note that this currently compares connection UUID of the parent
interface.

* Fix pytest

* Separate VLAN creation logic from apply_changes

Apply changes is really all about updating the NetworkManager settings
of a particular network interface. The base in apply_changes() is
NetworkInterface class, which is the NetworkManager Device abstraction.
All physical interfaces have such a Device hence it is always present.

The only exception is when creating a VLAN: Since it is a virtual
device, there is no device when creating a VLAN.

This separate the two cases. This makes it much easier to reason if
a VLAN already exists or not, and to handle the case where a VLAN
needs to be created.

For all other network interfaces, the apply_changes() method can
now rely on the presence of the NetworkInterface Device abstraction.

* Add VLAN test interface and VLAN exists test

Add a test which checks that an error gets raised when a VLAN for a
particular interface/id combination already exists.

* Address pylint

* Fix test_ignore_veth_only_changes pytest

* Make VLAN interface disabled to avoid test issues

* Reference setting 38 in mocked connection

* Make sure interface type matches

Require a interface type match before doing any comparision.

* Add Supervisor host network configuration tests

* Fix device type checking

* Fix pytest

* Fix tests by taking VLAN interface into account

* Fix test_load_with_network_connection_issues

This seems like a hack, but it turns out that the additional active
connection caused coresys.host.network.update() to be called, which
implicitly "fake" activated the connection. Now it seems that our
mocking causes IPv4 gateway to be set.

So in a way, the test checked a particular mock behavior instead of
actual intention.

The crucial part of this test is that we make sure the settings remain
unchanged. This is done by ensuring that the the method is still auto.

* Fix test_check_network_interface_ipv4.py

Now that we have the VLAN interface active too it will raise an issue
as well.

* Apply suggestions from code review

Stefan AgnerandGitHub f5b996b66c Make network API replace IP/WiFi settings (#5283)
* Allow to set user DNS through API with auto mode

Currently it is only possible to set DNS servers when in static mode.
However, there are use cases to set DNS servers when in auto mode as
well, e.g. if no local DNS server is provided by the DHCP, or the provided
DNS turns out to be non-working.

* Fix use separate data structure for IP configuration fallout

Make sure gateway is correctly converted to the internal IP
representation. Fix type info.

* Overwrite WiFi settings completely too

* Add test for DNS configuration

* Run ruff format

* Use schema validation as source for API defaults

Instead of using replace() simply set the API defaults in the API
schema.

* Revert "Use schema validation as source for API defaults"

This reverts commit 885506fd37.

* Use explicit dataclass initialization

This avoid the unnecessary replaces from before. It also makes it more
obvious that this part of the API doesn't patch existing settings.

Stefan AgnerandGitHub c0e35376f3 Improve connection settings tests (#5278)
* Improve connection settings fixture

Make the connection settings fixture behave more closely to the actual
NetworkManager. The behavior has been tested with NetworkManager 1.42.4
(Debian 12) and 1.44.2 (HAOS 13.1). This likely behaves similar in older
versions too.

* Introduce separate skeleton and settings for wireless

Instead of having a combined network settings object which has
Ethernet and Wirless settings, create a separate settings object for
wireless.

* Handle addresses/address-data property like NetworkManager

* Address ruff check

* Improve network API test

Add a test which changes from "static" to "auto". Validate that settings
are updated accordingly. Specifically, today this does clear the DNS
setting (by not providing the property).

9088810b49 Improve D-Bus error handling for NetworkManager (#4720)
* Improve D-Bus error handling for NetworkManager

There are quite some errors captured which are related by seemingly a
suddenly missing NetworkManager. Errors appear as:
23-11-21 17:42:50 ERROR (MainThread) [supervisor.dbus.network] Error while processing /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/Devices/10: Remote peer disconnected
...
23-11-21 17:42:50 ERROR (MainThread) [supervisor.dbus.network] Error while processing /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/Devices/35: The name is not activatable

Both errors seem to already happen at introspection time, however
the current code doesn't converts these errors to Supervisor issues.
This PR uses the already existing `DBus.from_dbus_error()`.

Furthermore this adds a new Exception `DBusNoReplyError` for the
`ErrorType.NO_REPLY` (or `org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply` in
D-Bus terms, which is the type of the first of the two issues above).

And finally it separates the `ErrorType.SERVICE_UNKNOWN` (or
`org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown` in D-Bus terms, which is
the second of the above issue) from `DBusInterfaceError` into a new
`DBusServiceUnkownError`.

This allows to handle errors more specifically.

To avoid too much churn, all instances where `DBusInterfaceError`
got handled, we are now also handling `DBusServiceUnkownError`.

The `DBusNoReplyError` and `DBusServiceUnkownError` appear when
the NetworkManager service stops or crashes. Instead of retrying
every interface we know, just give up if one of these issues appear.
This should significantly lower error messages users are seeing
and Sentry events.

* Remove unnecessary statement

* Fix pytests

* Make sure error strings are compared correctly

* Fix typo/remove unnecessary pylint exception

* Fix DBusError typing

* Add pytest for from_dbus_error

* Revert "Make sure error strings are compared correctly"

Stefan AgnerandGitHub 7a6663ba80 Use Python dbus-next D-Bus library (#3234)
* Use the correct interface name to get properties of systemd

It seems that gdbus (or systemd) automatically pick the correct
interface and return the properties. However, dbussy requires the
correct interface name to get all properties.

* Don't expect array from Strength property

The property returns a type "y" which equates to "guchar":
https://developer-old.gnome.org/NetworkManager/stable/gdbus-org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.AccessPoint.html#gdbus-property-org-freedesktop-NetworkManager-AccessPoint.Strength

It seems that the old D-Bus implementation returned an array. With
dbus-next a integer is returned, so no list indexing required.

* Support signals and remove no longer used tests and code

* Pass rauc update file path as string

That is what the interface is expecting, otherwise the new lib chocks on
the Pathlib type.

* Support Network configuration with dbus-next

Assemble Python native objects and pass them to dbus-next. Use dbus-next
specific Variant class where necessary.

* Use org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.Connection.Active.StateChanged

org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.Connection.Active.PropertyChanged is
depricated. Also it seems that StateChanged leads to fewer and more
accurate signals.

* Pass correct data type to RequestScan.

RequestScan expects an option dictionary. Pass an empty option
dictionary to it.

* Update unit tests

Replace gdbus specific fixtures with json files representing the return
values. Those can be easily converted into native Python objects.

* Rename D-Bus utils module gdbus to dbus
