+# How to backup and restore your TextSecure messages
+
+Some time ago the encrypted backup was removed due to some problems (see #1705 for reference). But there are many people who need to backup their messages as they migrate to a new phone for example. Here's how I managed to move to a new phone:
+
+1. Download [Helium](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.backup&hl=de) from the playstore 
+2. Install it and start it (without root permissions)
+3. [Activate it](http://www.clockworkmod.com/carbon) using your PC 
+4. Backup TextSecure and its apk
+5. Pull the whole backup on your pc (adb pull /sdcard/carbon)
+6. Push it to your new phone (adb push carbon /sdcard/carbon)
+7. Install Helium on your new phone and activate it (like 2 and 3)
+8. Click on the restore tab and restore Textsecure
+9. When this is finished open up TextSecure and you have to press "End secure session" in every conversation to get it working

+This is it. It's working fine for me until now.

+- sending messages
+- receiving messages
+- saving old images
